Shapes

Kellen drew this assortment of colorful shapes. He tells me the shape in the upper left "looks kind of like a shoe".

Great Goal Celebration

Aidan's soccer team plays their season finale tomorrow night. I want to see them top this celebration!

Who Needs a Hand?

Logan figures now that he's eating cereal he can manage the bottle by himself.

Safe and Sound

When Kellen began acquiring Star Wars figures he liked to place one or two on his window sill at night. Now he's got a whole army of galactic heroes watching over him while he sleeps.

Auto Exchange

A friend of ours needed to borrow our truck to run his lawn mower out for repair. He asked to swap vehicles and I jokingly asked for his Corvette. He immediately threw me the keys.

I took a not-so-direct drive home stopping at the library and cruised through our neighborhood. I certainly got more looks than I usually do.

Later Aidan donned his shades and offered modeled next to the car.

Mmm...Tasty!

Shoe Box

The boys are back in the house which means I'm overhearing many interesting conversations coming from the playroom downstairs. It also marks the return of Shoe Box.

What is Shoe Box you ask? I had the same question myself a few short weeks ago.

It's just one of the made up games Aidan and Kellen have concocted to entertain themselves. Most of these activities include lots of running and giggling.

So Shoe Box...I snuck halfway down the stairs to observe one afternoon. One person stands in the middle of the room with arms crossed and the other runs by them as close as they dare. The man in the middle then swings an arm out trying to tag the runner shouting "Shoe Box!" as he does.

Kind of looks like this...

Maybe next week I'll try to explain the intricacies of Tiki Man Tag.

Back to Normal

Aidan and Kellen returned home this past weekend after almost a week in Iowa with their grandparents. They are full of stories about tractor rides, rocket balloons, beach ball sprinklers, ice cream cones and trampolines.

One topic that seems to keep popping up is excitement over a ditch that they saw. I'm not sure if there is more to the story than I'm getting but it seems to have been very memorable for both of them.

Ditch = Excitement

We now return to our normal schedule of teaching (for me), soccer (for Aidan) and all of the normal daily fun around the house. If things get too mundane I guess I find them a ditch to play in.

On the Course

Yesterday I had the opportunity to tag along with brother Ryan at the Ed Thomas memorial golf outing in Waverly, Iowa. I offered a little bit of physical assistance and enjoyed the day with Ryan, dad and mom bouncing around the course with the athletes and coaching celebrities in attendance.

Recent Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl tight end Dallas Clark of the Indianapolis Colts participated in the event along with Pro Bowl defensive end Aaron Kampman, retired Pro Bowl linebacker Bryce Paup and several other notable NFLers with Iowa ties. Former Hawkeye basketball coach Tom Davis and legendary Cyclone hoops coach Johnny Orr (below) were also part of the event.

Ryan is the superintendent at Centennial Oaks Golf Club. After the festivities were over he and I headed back out to the course to play nine holes. Here are a few pictures of the king of grounds playing on his beautifully manicured 180 acres.

Ryan put this lengthy putt off the pin and would have sank the epic shot had his brother not been more concerned with getting a picture than pulling the flag.
