Trick or Treat

We hit the neighborhood with our buddy A.J. this evening Trick or Treating in Minnesota for the first time. The boys ran excitedly from house to house with an energy level that might indicate they had already consumed large amounts of sugar. They loved how heavy their sweet receptacles were getting and quickly mastered the spot-a-house-with-the-outdoor-lights-on-and-run-for-it system.

PHOTOS: Cyclones/Huskers

Last year I happily served as trophy husband when Rachel was invited by a carrier to be their guest for a Nebraska football game. It was indiscribably cold and I accepted their gifts of warm Husker wear glad to utilize it to maintain feeling in most of my extremities during the pre-game tailgating.

We were asked to sit with the big wigs in the skybox and it was a great opportunity to view things from a unique perspective...the free food wasn't bad either. I didn't get the full effect of the 85,000 seat venue from behind the windows and hoped we could return on a warmer weekend and sit outside among the red masses. That opportunity came this week.

Conveniently the Huskers opponent this year was our beloved Iowa State Cyclones. Those who had invited us knew Rachel and I were both ISU grads and did not expect us to wear enemy colors. They welcomed us warmly assuming they were about to beat us down again. The Cyclones had not won in Lincoln since 1977.

Game time!

Nebraska scores...balloons are released

That scoreboard says we win!

To quickly summarize the game Iowa State was without it's top two offensive players (our starting QB and RB). Our offense was miserable but our defense capitalized on eight Nebraska turnovers and we got to walk out of the stadium smiling after a 9-7 victory.

Mother of Three to Be

24 weeks

VIDEO: Circle of Life

Kellen's been walking around belting out the opening to the Lion King's "Circle of Life". I'm not sure he knows the lyrics perfectly but who does?

The video also feature's this morning's breakfast. Some days you insist they eat the right things. Some days you let them eat Goldfish crackers out of the elephant cup from the circus and make up for it later.

PHOTOS: Fall in Chicago

We made a quick trip to Chicago this weekend for a wedding and met up with Rachel's side of the family. Andrea and Dave had returned from a recent trip abroad and gifted the boys with these Italian soccer (or should I say futbol?) jerseys. We spent some time at the local park breaking them in.

Before leaving the boys with the Christensen crew and departing for the wedding we stopped at a local pumpkin dealer to pick up supplies for their evening entertainment.

Here are a few of the results from an evening with Nana, Papa, Andi, Dave and the pumpkins...

Kellen's

They also participated in a traditional carving. Neither boy was too fond of digging out the pumpkin guts.

POTS Signs

WARNING: Assisting children in discovering something they find fascinating may lead to future levels of extreme mental fatigue. Particularly when said discovery is noticeable in wide supply while traveling for extended periods of time in mobile but enclosed spaces.

Remember the Flag Finding Mission? We're still going strong recognizing every flag waving in the breeze while traversing between points A and B. The boys even recognize the state flag of Minnesota now. Aidan will almost subconsciously slip "USA flag" and/or "Minnesota flag" into a stream of his own conversation as effortlessly as taking a breath. If we're passing by the golden arches a "McDonald's Flag" will even work its way into a rapid fire succession of banner recognition.

So I'm playing the usual word games with Aidan while we're travelling about. He asks what something says, I throw the question back at him and he provides the correct response to his original inquiry. I tried to bend his mind around one day and asked him to read a stop sign backwards. "POTS!" he responded with great enthusiasm. "POTS!" yelled Kellen with equal exuberance. "Ruh Roh!" the Scooby Doo voice in my head said to me.

Now as we travel about they recognize (and verbally respond to) all kinds of flags...and every POTS sign on the planet.
