Someone altered the message I left on the fridge!

The Super Scholar

Aidan is enjoying a successful second year in school excelling in all things related to first grade. I joined him in class on his birthday and watched him in action. He likes to challenge me with the things he's learning and has supplied us with some humorous moments as well.

found out on the way home from school that Aidan had worn one of his boots and one of Kellen's today. He was three sizes too small on one side during recess. Kellen never mentioned that one of his boots felt a little roomy. (February 4)

noticed Aidan's shirt was inside out before we headed to church. I did not recognize the fact that his pants were on backwards. (February 6)

is in training for the new game show "Are You Smarter Than A 1st Grader". Every day when I pick Aidan up from school he hits me with a barrage of questions. I've learned he is never inquiring...he's testing me. (February 8)

had the following conversation with one of Aidan's classmates earlier today. Kid: Tomorrow is Lincoln's birthday! Me: I'm pretty sure Lincoln's birthday is on Saturday. Kid: No, it's tomorrow. Lincoln is my hermit crab. Me: Oh...does he have a beard? Kid: He's got whiskers. Me: Cool. (February 10)

was quizzed earlier in the week on the intricacies of backing up a vehicle and the effects of turning the wheel in different directions while in reverse. Aidan said he didn't want to get that part of his driver's test wrong if asked. Nothing beats getting prepared eight years ahead of schedule! (March 16)

has Aidan at home today. It's the only snow day he's had in two years...and it's March 23. Whodathunkit? (March 23)

My Mini-Comedian

No one entertains me quite like Kellen. The things he tells me and his facial expressions make me laugh on a daily basis.

asked Kellen to be careful not to kick the eggs as I placed them in the shopping cart. When we arrived at the checkout he proudly declared, "I didn't even make them hatch!" (February 17)

would like to pass the following public health announcement along from Kellen. Please remember to keep you hands germ free by coughing into your armpit instead. (March 2)

has officially heard it all. Kellen, the master of bedtime procrastination, could not sleep because his undies were distracting him. (March 5)

has received multiple requests for Teeter Totters since last night's dinner including Tater Tots. (March 16)

He's not all humor. Kellen sees the things his big brother does and knows and wants to keep up. I took him to his kindergarten screening this week and he scored in the 60's just as Aidan did three years ago. They deemed him fit to be educated after posting a score well above the 24 needed to pass.

Baby's Getting Bigger

Three months of status updates related to our little man...

should have grabbed the video camera. Logan was staggering around the kitchen with a shirt over his head bumping into the cupboards. Looked just like his mama. (January 13)

is watching Logan fill the laundry basket with stuffed animals, toys and remote controls. Last night he filled the trash can with magazines, bottles and pacifiers. (January 18)

finds it is sometimes better not to ask too many questions. Why was Logan stuck between the couch and end table with his bottle, the TV Guide and a can of Cream of Potato soup? It really could have happened to anyone. (January 20)

would have stopped Aidan from making Logan chase the red dot from the laser pointer but it was just too funny. (January 20)

has been keeping the kitchen trash can up on the counter to prevent Logan from digging things out or throwing things in. He found somewhere new to hide things. That bathroom hand towel is a little damp now. (January 22)

thinks Logan has a natural cleaning gene. As I was sweeping the kitchen floor he was down on all fours wiping it with a wash cloth. It's about time he started contributing around here! (January 28)

is impressed with Logan's evasive maneuvering. He swiped one of Kellen's cookies and I had to jump in and assist. He covered the cookie well and utilized some good change of pace and direction. (February 14)

has found that if you say where you are going before you go Logan will try to beat and meet you there. The words "downstairs", "change clothes", "pajamas", "brush your teeth" and "do you stink?" will send him scurrying for the appropriate destination. (March 1)

cannot convince Logan that I will not allow him to eat the Thin Mint cookies no matter how many times he tries to run off with them. Yesterday I was late once and caught him with chocolaty lips and minty breath. (March 1)

will likely be holding our precious little bundle of germs for most of the day once again. He seems to be clearing up a bit...but is still in desperate need of a Tic Tac. (March 8)

thinks RSV, pneumonia, a double ear infection and a ruptured ear drum is too much for one week in the life of a one year old. Poor little dude! (March 11)

enjoys Logan's knowledge of routine and what's going on around him. Every time I start turning off lights during the day he goes to the door knowing we are about to leave. As I crack it open he sneaks out, takes a hard right (when we need to go left) and runs down the hallway as I lock up. I thought he was mistaken on which way to go but he likes to see the little dog statue outside someone's door to the right. (March 21)

needs to teach Logan that a slap on the face is not really the proper way to say hello or show affection...even if he smiles and giggles when he does it. Thankfully his brothers think it's funny (for now) and don't return the gesture. (March 22)

Moving Along

A few months ago we decided to look at moving closer to Aidan's school and toward the hub of most of our activities. Today we find ourselves in between permanent addresses managing life with three energetic boys (energetic = occasionally loud) in much closer quarters. Our temporary home has a pool, fully stocked gym, huge garage and an elevator. Of course we share that home with a couple hundred other people. We are anxious to spread out in the new home that awaits us and will begin shuffling our belongings again in mid-April.

Here are some status updates that detailed the frustrations of selling our home of three years...

January 12: Travis loves it when agents and buyers comment about how clean our house is. Come watch us the night before a showing and in the hours before you arrive at the door. Even Kellen knows the checklist and reminds me of things not to forget. I can't wait for a time when we can live in filth for a week with nothing prompting us to make it all sparkle.

January 18: Travis loves dragging the kids out of the house for hours when other people can't keep to their schedules. Yesterday the inspector stayed until 4:30 after blocking an 11:30 to 2:30 window. Today the appraiser shows up at 1:30 smiling and saying, "I set an appointment time." That time was 11:00 to 1:00 and we had just returned from 2 1/2 hours away from home. Buy a watch people.

Here are a few moments with those that now share walls with us at the apartment...

March 18: Travis wishes the man with the tiny pup would not get so aggravated every time someone refers to his dog as "he". Put some bows and pick frilly dresses on it or smile and move on with your life. I also wish I did not now feel like calling it a he just to see him get all flustered but I do.

One member of our moving party suggested that he should have lifted the dog's tail to check the canine's gender. Another suggested someone's wife might be a fire hazard but that story tells itself better verbally than in text.

March 21: Travis thinks the young man who was monopolizing the weights could have finished his workout much sooner if he didn't feel the need to gaze at his reflection after every set of reps. Thankfully the Lord has blessed me with a physique that does not require constant admiration so I am much more efficient in my routine.

We are very thankful to have sold our home and found a new place to land (and a spot for in between). I did need to vent a few times but think I will survive without any visible scarring.

Status(es) Update

I noticed the blog was being severely neglected. It's partially the hecticness (is that a word?) of our present transition and largely because my life goes out in shorter, more frequent blasts on Facebook these days. I thought perhaps I could do as I once did and post some information in the form of recent status updates. I was sure I'd done that in the last few months...turns out it was almost a year ago. If you're a friend or family member following us through the exchanges of the social network, you're up-to-date on the everyday moments with my three favorite little men and my random thoughts on life and the situations I find myself in. If not, I'll try to organize some updates on a variety of topics here over the next few days.

I'll cover the last three months. Anything between April and December of 2009 will have to be left to the imagination.
