Tomorrow we leave for the east coast to participate in and be witness to my sister’s wedding. The boys are excited to fly (Kellen’s first experience…Aidan’s second) and they have been talking non-stop about the fact that the hotel we are staying at has an indoor pool (think we’ll spend any time in the water over five or six days?).
When Aidan was ring bearer for Rachel’s sister a few years back we dubbed the wedding as “Andi’s Party”. We’ve been doing the same this time around promoting the event as “Allison’s Party”. Aidan may understand parts of the concept of marriage but I’m not sure how to explain that to Kellen. Using ourselves as a reference may backfire. If we tell him the couple-to-be are going to be just like mama and dada he may take that to mean cousins are on the way.
Earlier this week, responding to the promise of a party, Kellen essentially informed us that he was expecting cake and “the birthday song”. Cake we can do. I’m wondering when we can fit in the event-inappropriate music. Then today he relayed to me his plan to hide from Allison and jump out and yell “surprise”. This could be an interesting twist on the wedding. Perhaps when the new bride and groom come to the reception we can all lie in wait under the tables and pop out when they enter the room. I’m sure they’d be surprised enough to make it look like they had no idea we’d be there…even with all those RSVP’s.
